The Details of the WAUDOG Eco-Friendly Re-Cotton Collar and Leash

The Re-Cotton Collar & Leash set is made of recycled cotton to make dog gear more sustainable. The material is extremely durable, soft, and hypoallergenic and can be put in the washer/dryer when needed. They are also stitched with reflective thread for visibility in the dark.

The collar features a plastic lock buckle for additional safety. This small slider locks the clip so it cannot be pushed open accidentally.

Most WAUDOG collars come with a smart QR tag that links to an app storing all the pet’s details. This makes it easier to update the contact information when traveling or if someone else is taking care of the dog while you are away.

They offer a premium membership ($34.99/year right now), which even sends you an SMS if the tag is scanned. In some cases, it can also send you a location where the tag was scanned based on the IP address. The WauDog app can also be used as one space to keep all your pet’s vet documents, display the pet’s medical info, and set reminders for vet visits or pills.

Their system is also integrated with the Animal ID international database, so when entering the microchip number in the WauDog app, you should have free access to that database as well.

This set has a solid design, and the soft material is comfortable for both the dog and the walker. The material is slightly stretchy, not as much to let the dog “gain ground” when on a short leash, just enough to smoothen some microtugging.

Mia had the Small leash and the Large collar. It is not a wide collar - even the Large and the Extra Large comes in 1" (2.5 cm), which felt a little too thin for a larger dog, but this comes down to personal preference.

The safety lock is a neat feature because Zulu managed to open her collars a few times when running through the woods or scratching. While testing it, I ran into the slider locking itself a few times while we walked, but I had never experienced it the other way around (it never opened from the locked position).

What surprised me was the sizing of the leash. I was so focused on understanding the changes in width ( XS and S are 0.6" (1.5cm) while M is 0.8" (2cm), and then L and XXL again are 0.6") that I missed that some of these are 79" (2 m), while others are 118" (3 m) - which is absolutely on me! I found the sizing guide a little confusing since, based on this, the S and the XXL leashes seem to have the same dimensions. I assume they have a different carabiner, but the difference is unclear from the product description.

I reached out to WauDog, and they sent over another table containing information on the leash width, which explains the differences better. When writing this review, this is not on their website.

The 118" leashes are long, but I like the width that keeps it lighter and more elegant! It was perfect for bathroom breaks but is less practical for city walks.

I liked the idea of having the QR code on the collar because it makes it much easier to keep all information up-to-date and add extra information about the pet. However, I was somewhat disappointed that most valuable features are only available under the paid plan, which I feel is relatively expensive.

Regardless, you can still enter the same basic information you could engrave on a tag. This is a good feature by itself, and the paid plan seems to offer some robust functionality.

WAUDOG Eco-Friendly Re-Cotton Collar and Leash Review Summary

Altogether this is a great collar and leash combo that looks good, seems to be durable, easy to clean, has some excellent features - like the smart ID tag & the lock buckle - and also tries to make buying dog gear more sustainable, which are all great points across the board.
