About the Apex Dog Harness
The Apex harness is a lightweight, Y-shaped harness designed to combine freedom of movement with a secure and comfortable fit. The back features a strong grab handle, there are two plastic buckles on the chest straps, and two leash attachment points: on the back and on the chest. The longer chest panel design helps to provide armpit clearance for breeds with deeper chests.
The harness features a three-clip entry system, allowing it to be fully unclipped and placed around the dog, rather than being slipped over the head with an opening on the right side of the neck strap. For dogs that tolerate slipping on, that option remains available as well.
The padded sections are made with water-resistant material, which helps minimize water absorption and speeds up drying after rainy walks. Integrated 3M Scotchlite reflective strips run along the seams to enhance visibility in low-light conditions, which is a practical touch for evening or early morning walks.
The Apex harness is available in seven sizes (XXS to XXL), but keep in mind that the price increases with size, which may be a consideration for those with larger dogs. It comes in two color options — Nomad and Nebula. Matching collars and leashes are also available to create a fully matching set.
Apex Dog Harness Review
The Apex harness is built with everyday usability in mind: it is a comfortable, well-fitting, and low-maintenance harness that is easy to clean. The Y-shaped design offers unrestricted shoulder movement. Even though the neck straps are not adjustable, they offered a perfect fit on Zulu. While some will be disappointed that the neck section is not adjustable, this allows for all-around padding and creates structural stability compared to more adjustable options, where you will see more shifting/ gaping with the harness as the dog moves.
The grab handle is well-designed without sticking up awkwardly or adding extra weight, but it is still easy to grab when needed. While the additional opening on the neck buckle is a great option, it is not a super easy process to open it up there. On the other hand, it will not open accidentally while out on a walk.
The padding of this harness is one of its best features: it’s soft and water-resistant without being overly thick, which helps the harness stay in place while still drying quickly. The reflective elements are subtle but effective, making the harness (and the dog) very visible in the dark.
Functionality Review of the Twiggy Tags Apex Harness
No-pull correction: It has a no-pull ring on the chest; however, the longer design, which is ideal for deeper-chested dogs, will cause it to slide up more when used with that attachment on a slender dog.
Running/Biking: It is not designed to be a pulling harness but is padded enough to use for light pullers or a perfect option if your dog runs next to you, as it will stay in place well.
Hiking: Great option for hikes: It is light, easy to clean, has a handle, and allows for free leg movement!
City walks: It is a good and functional harness for daily urban walks.
Easy to put on/adjust: It can go over the head, but doesn’t need to for those head shy dogs. The chest straps offer plenty of adjustment options, and we have not had any issues with these straps loosening up over time.
Visibility: The Nebula color is a bit more visible than Zulu’s Nomad harness, but none of them are really high-visibility. However, the harness has reflective stripes all around.
