About the PETDURO Gold Buckle Gem Green Velvet Harness
The PETDURO Gold Buckle Gem Green Harness is a highly adjustable, Y-shaped harness. You can adjust not only the four straps but also the length of the section between the front legs to customize the armpit clearance and create a comfortable fit for your dog.
This is a soft harness; the upper layer is velvet, and the bottom layer is cotton. All the hardware is zinc alloy with gold plating.
A unique feature is that you can get the harness with engraved text on the buckle, so you can have your contact information right on the harness instead of adding a separate tag. You can also choose different bundles; the complete package includes a matching harness, leash, collar, bow tie, and poop bag holder.
PETDURO Velvet Harness Review
The wide adjustability range made this harness great for Zulu while she was growing fast. Finding a well-fitting harness for puppies is very hard because you not only need to adjust the straps, but also the position of the chest strap to provide enough room for the front legs and prevent chafing. The adjustable 5th strap made this possible! Since the material is softer and thicker, we had no issue with the sliders loosening up.
Since the straps meet in a ring and the material isn’t rigid, this is not a “stable” harness. It slides and rotates easily when pulled to the side or if you attach a long lead/dragline to it. The other thing that caused it to rotate is that it only features one buckle on the chest strap. The weight of this buckle is always rotating the harness until it gets under the dog’s chest, which is why it doesn’t show in any of the photos.
This rotation can be a problem because it also pushes the strap between the legs to one side, which can potentially cause chafing and change the stride of small dogs and puppies, which is not ideal for their joints. The other problem is that the buckle sometimes ends up in the dog’s armpits, which annoyed Zulu and could also cause chafing.
The harness material is soft, making it great if the dog’s hair/skin is sensitive. However, there is nothing under the buckle to protect the dog, which could be an issue for very sensitive dogs. The thicker velvet/cotton material soaks in water and mud very easily and takes a while to dry, making the harness heavy.
Functionality Review of the PETDURO Velvet Harness
No-pull correction: Does not have a no-pull ring.
Running/Biking: It was not designed for that, doesn’t have enough padding for pulling, and I’m not sure the buckle could handle the strain of regular canicross/bikejoring. It could be OK for dogs who just run by the owner without pulling into the harness.
Hiking: It can be used for hikes, but the harness material is better suited for city walks on a dry day.
City walk: Perfect.
Easy to put on/adjust: Easy if you can pull it over the dog’s head when adjusted for their neck circumference. All the straps are adjustable, but only the chest straps have a buckle, so you need to lift one leg.
Visibility: No reflectors, but it comes in a few colors, some more visible than others.
This harness was perfect for puppy Zulu. It is a well-made harness, especially for this price. Having the 5-point adjustment is helpful when you have a puppy and most harnesses don’t offer that. The optional engraving is also a great idea so that you can add contact information to the buckle.
If you use it in a city environment, it works very well but is not ideal for muddy hikes or if your dog frequently swims. Also, if you are looking for a harness to use with a dragline, this might not be the best harness for you.
