How does the PAJ PET Finder work?

The PAJ PET Finder 4G operates using cellular networks, so it requires a subscription plan. It utilizes 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, and GPS to provide accurate and consistent location tracking. The integrated M2M SIM does not prefer a specific mobile network but is based on the best local reception, so it connects to the strongest mobile network at any location. If a network fails or offers poor reception, the device automatically connects to the best mobile network which provides a huge advantage compared to dog trackers only working on one network.

The device is compatible with networks in over 100 countries, ensuring broad coverage for tracking pets.

The Module

Weighing only 48 grams (1.7 oz), the PAJ PET Finder 4G is lightweight and designed to be comfortable for dogs over 4 kg (9 lbs). Its IP67 waterproof rating means it can withstand submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for 30 minutes, making it suitable for various weather conditions. The device attaches to any collar or harness using strong velcro straps.

Location Tracking

The PAJ PET Finder 4G offers accurate and prompt location tracking, allowing you to monitor your dog’s whereabouts through the PAJ Finder app. Additionally, the tracker maintains a detailed log of all movements - for three days on the Basic plan and keeping a 365-day history on the premium plan.

For continuous GPS tracking during constant movement on outdoor adventures, the battery life is up to 13 hours, however, PAJ offers different power-saving modes and features to extend battery life. There is a battery saving feature when the tracker is connected to the home WiFi sparing the use of GPS, allowing for 26 hours of run time.

The way the company recommends using the tracker is to turn it off when at home and activate it when leaving the house. When the tracker is actively used for 1 hour and kept off the dog for the remaining 23 hours while at home, the battery can last up to 6-7 days.

The PAJ PET Finder also includes customizable geofencing alerts, allowing you to set safe zones for your pet. If your dog leaves the designated area, you’ll receive immediate notifications through the app. The device also offers training features utilizing acoustic signals for recall training.

PAJ PET Finder Review

We have reviewed and consequently used many GPS trackers over the years and the PAJ Pet Finder offered a very different experience than its competitors.

As we mentioned above, PAJ is not focused on dog products - they are a tracking solutions company that recently introduced their tracking devices on the pet market. As expected, the live tracking and GPS capabilities are outstanding with very clear and accurate track logs. The user can filter different views, see timelines with maps, and distances broken done by drives / separate activities with time stamps on everything. However, the user interface and features are closer to an app used for fleet tracking than what people have in mind for a pet tracker.

If you are looking for a tracker where you set activity goals for your pup and see how many calories they burnt etc. - this is not for you. However, if you want accurate location tracking (and only that) the PAJ Pet Finder delivers perfectly. Regular update frequency can be set between 1-10 minutes. When live tracking is enabled, it sends location information every 5 seconds for 3 minutes.

The physical device is medium-sized compared to most trackers - it is reasonably sized for most medium dogs and up. It is neat that it can be attached to any collar and the velcro straps are incredibly strong but keep in mind that dog hair and dirt will start collecting on it and it will also get caught on fleece sweaters and such. I have been using the tracker for months and the velcro straps never loosened and the edges have not started to “peel off” so far.

Other features include remotely turning sound and light on and off on the tracker from your phone.

Charging is done with a unique magnetic 4-pin charging cable. Not having an opening to attach a charger probably helps to keep the water and dust out of the device, however it also means that you need to travel with one more charger just for the tracker. The magnetic connection also means that you need to set it up just the right way to keep the charger connected as the magnet is not super strong.

One issue I have been having is that my tracker consistently forgets to send me a notification about the low battery level. There is a setting where you can opt-in for these notifications and I checked that. Still, I very rarely receive a note that the battery is low/out. When checking the charge in the app it also shows the last known battery level which is usually 1-3% even when the battery is actually out and the tracker is not functioning. This might just be an issue with my device but it makes it hard to stay on top of charging which is frequently needed.

The battery time is the biggest weakness of this tracker and it underperforms most trackers we have tested. We usually got 2-3 days of charge with the PAJ tracker while staying home (and on WiFi) and around 12 hours when traveling/training away from home even with the slowest update rates set.

If you have a dog who is a flight risk, I would probably recommend keeping the tracker on the charger between walks / overnight to ensure it is always ready to go.

The app provides very robust reporting/log features along with plenty of settings but the UI is not intuitive and is not specific to dogs, rather it’s a generic industrial tracking app. Some of these settings and options are hard to understand in the context of dogs but they all have explanations that come up in a pop-up when the question mark icon is clicked which helps.

PAJ PET Finder Functionality Review

- Is the PAJ PET Finder a good option if I’m worried about my dog getting loose and running away?

None of the trackers we tested so far worked perfectly in every situation, which is why it’s important to note that these are still only backups for emergencies, not a replacement for training and regularly practicing good recall.

The Pet Finder’s location tracking has worked seamlessly for us so far. The live tracking is really accurate even deep in the woods but even the regular (not live) tracking mode is highly accurate. The geofencing notifications were also timely with the “return alert” being sometimes delayed, but the “leave” notes came in within a minute of leaving the zone.

If you have a flight-risk dog, consider if the battery time provided is enough to catch the dog. If your dog will just run around in the neighborhood for an hour and eventually return, the Pet Finder will keep track of them in the meantime so you can find them, but if you have a loose dog hiding in the woods with no desire to return, you might run out of battery too soon.

- Is the PAJ PET Finder a good option for tracking how much my dog is running around while we are hiking?

It logged in our activities pretty accurately, but it doesn’t measure or calculate steps or other wellness/fitness metrics.

The distance walked is calculated based on the GPS track which will be more accurate when set to more frequent updates but it’s still just a high-level route that will be pretty similar to the human track. PAJ’s system does not adjust the route to trails or roads, just connects the GPS location points with a straight line.

- Is the PAJ PET Finder a good option to track my dog’s overall activity level?

This tracker focuses on location tracking and does not offer wellness or activity tracking features. You can look back at routes and see how much you walked but it does not provide charts and trends for activities like other trackers.

- Is the PAJ PET Finder a good option to check on my dog while they are with a dog sitter or at the doggie daycare?

As the Pet Finder doesn’t show activities just location tracking, it can be used to track dog walks with a sitter or dog walker but would just show stationary location at daycare. If the dog is left with a sitter or daycare overnight, the tracker also needs to be charged after the first day.

PAJ PET Finder Review Summary

The PAJ PET Finder 4G stands out with its precision tracking and detailed activity logs, clearly showing the company’s background in professional GPS solutions. While its interface and functionality lean more toward industrial fleet tracking than pet-specific design, it delivers when it comes to live location updates and track history.

This tracker is not the right choice if you’re looking for fitness or wellness metrics, or a dog-centric app experience, but if your priority is accurate GPS tracking with flexible update settings, the PAJ PET Finder performs exceptionally well.

Battery life is its biggest limitation, especially for longer outings or dogs who need constant monitoring, but for day-to-day walks and local adventures, it’s a capable and durable option. For owners with escape artists or dogs who roam off-leash, it can be a valuable backup—just keep it charged and understand its strengths and trade-offs.
