About the OneTigris X-ARMOR Harness

The OneTigris X-ARMOR Tactical Harness is part of OneTigris’s new X series, inspired by the world of reactive armors and mechas. The other harness from this series we have reviewed is the X-Armor harness.

The X-ARMOR harness is made from 1000D nylon and hypalon fabric that offers resistance to weathering, dirt, water, and abrasion. The X-ARMOR features laser-cut MOLLE technology, reducing unnecessary weight while providing ample space for add-on gear and patches.

The harness features both vertical and horizontal grab handles for control and support in different situations but these are not designed for lifting or carrying a dog.

This harness includes six quick-release metal buckles and three metal D-rings, including a no-pull front chest leash attachment. The buckles on the neck-straps make it easy to put on the harness.

These are strength tested as follows:

  • Size M: Metal Buckle 397lb/180kg; Front Chest D-ring 220 lbs /100 kg; Top/Back D-ring 440 lbs/200 kg

  • Size L: Metal Buckle 485lb/220kg; Front Chest D-ring 440 lbs /200 kg; Top/Back D-ring 400 lbs /200 kg

  • Size XL: Metal Buckle 485lb/220kg; Front Chest D-ring 440 lbs/ 200 kg; Top/Back D-ring 400 lbs/200 kg

(there is currently no information on the small size’s testing)

The “full-body armor” design prevents rotation and reduces the risk of injuries on the underside of the dog while running through dense woods. To ensure the harness fits a range of dogs, the section between the front legs is also adjustable, allowing you to set the distance of the second strap from the front legs.

The padded, wide underside of the harness also helps to distribute the pressure on a bigger area for dogs who pull on the leash attached to the back or if they need mobility support.

OneTigris X-ARMOR Harness Review

The OneTigris X-ARMOR Harness is a heavy-duty, sturdy harness that weighs 1.4lb/ 650g (small) - 2.4lb/1100g (XL). Although it is not a lightweight harness, the metal buckles are still not as heavy as on some other harnesses.

The buckles on the neck-straps make it easy to put the harness on gear shy dogs or if the dog is wearing a GPS collar. Having a fully symmetrical design (including the buckles) also eliminates the issue of constant rotation that we have seen with other three-strap harnesses featuring five buckles.

Zulu is a hard-to-fit dog with her deep chest and small neck, and the OneTigris X-ARMOR harness fits her pretty well thanks to all the adjustment points! It doesn’t sit too close to the armpit, it doesn’t slide down on her shoulders, it doesn’t ride up or rotate.

I really appreciate that OneTigris lists the chest piece length and width in the product description which are crucial measurements to figure out if they will fit your dog. As you will see there the chest piece doesn’t have a huge adjustment range on the smaller sizes - it is 1.5" (3 CM) on Zulu’s Small harness and I feel we could have used just another inch to create the perfect fit. However, it was not chafing her legs and she was comfortable wearing it and moving around in it this way as well.

The front no-pull ring is not as effective as other harnesses specifically designed for the no-pull purpose, as the leash attachment point is a bit low but the “body armor” design provides a lot of stability and keeps the harness from rotating when the no-pull ring is being used.

Given the harness’s large coverage on both the back and underside of the dog, it is important to keep in mind of its potential impact on your dog’s ability to cool down, especially on hot days. The large back panel can contribute to overheating as the black material absorbs heat over time when exposed to direct sunlight.

The extensive back panel not only provides stability to the harness but also offers room for plenty of patches. The laser-cut Molle section makes the harness look very sharp even when there are no patches attached, which wouldn’t be the case with just having a huge velcro panel there.

The big handles are easy to grab when you need better control over the dog. They stand out a bit, which always comes with the possibility of getting caught on something in the woods, but it lays fairly low when not used.

The underside of the harness stays over the ribcage on most dogs (depending on its adjustment) which ensures that the dog’s weight is not distributed over the stomach area when lifting the dog.

Functionality Review of the X-ARMOR Harness

  • No-pull correction: It has a no-pull front ring, which works reasonably well.

  • Running/Biking: This harness is not designed for pulling sports and the large coverage would make it easier for a dog to overheat on warm days when exercised.

  • Hiking: Having the handles is excellent for supporting a dog on steep trails or grabbing while letting others pass us on the trail. The materials are sturdy and the large underside coverage is great to protect the dog from scratches when running through undergrowth. It can be a good option for hiking on cooler days when overheating is not a concern.

  • City walks: Works well; the ring closer to the neck gives you good steering power, which is handy in busy environments. The velcro panels allow you to add patches, e.g., if your dog needs more room or is in training.

  • Easy to put on/adjust: all five straps have plenty of room for adjustment. All straps have buckles, so putting on the dog is easy.

  • Visibility: This harness currently only comes in black and does not have reflective elements.

Review Summary

The OneTigris X-ARMOR Harness is a durable, sturdy harness that can handle large dogs and heavy use. While it is not a lightweight option, the five adjustment points, six buckles, three-leash attachment points, and two handles make this harness a versatile option for many different activities or training scenarios.

Zulu is wearing the small size and the website currently doesn’t have information on the strength testing of that size.
