The Details of the Non-Stop Dogwear Wool Jacket

Non-Stop Dogwear Wool Jacket combines the natural benefits of merino wool with the durability of synthetic materials. It features a blend of 40% mulesing-free merino wool, 38% polyamide, and 22% recycled polyester. This blend leverages wool’s thermal regulation, breathability, and odor resistance while incorporating polyester for durability and quick drying.

Additionally, softshell reinforcements are placed in areas prone to wear and tear to ensure the jacket can be used for a long time.

This jacket is designed to cover large muscle groups while allowing full freedom of movement. Multiple adjustment options and elastic leg loops help keep it in place even when the dog is running around off-leash.

The jacket comes in sizes 27 to 70 and Zulu is wearing a size 45.

The reflective tabs on the sides and in the back provide visibility in low-light conditions.

While this jacket is not waterproof, wool can absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling wet or cold, providing great insulation even in damp conditions. Wool is a great material for dog coats because it helps regulate body temperature on both cold and warmer days, and is also odor-resistant, antistatic, and offers UV protection for dogs with minimal fur.

Dirt can often be rinsed or brushed off but for deeper cleaning, the jacket is machine washable using a wool program and specialized wool detergent, but it should not be tumble dried.

The Wool jacket is designed to be a sweater/baselayer with a larger coverage to keep the big muscle groups warm before/after or even during exercises to minimize the chances of injuries. Due to this, the sizing of this coat tends to run bigger than Non-Stop’s winter coat sizing.

As we discussed in the Non-Stop Glacier Wool Coat review, Zulu needed a size 50 from that coat once she stopped growing, however from the base layers, the size 50 was very baggy on her and kept sliding to the side. After seeing this jacket on many dogs, I highly recommend sizing down even if your dog is in the middle of the sizing range. Non-stop Dogwear also has great customer support and they can help you with sizing if you are unsure.

The Wool Jacket is well-made and has all the features you can ask for from reinforced sections through three adjustment points (besides the chest strap) and a harness opening. While it provides a big coverage the slits in front of the shoulders ensure that the jacket is not interfering with the front legs’ movement.

While this color is called dark teal, in real life it looks more like a dark green with a greyish tone. The colors in these photos are pretty close to the real color.

It is important to understand that the Wool Jacket is still a base layer/sweater and not a thick, warm coat. It is a great option for active dogs who just need a little extra warmth, as a baselayer, or for those dogs who need a sweater at home. I have also been using it for car rides as Zulu’s crate in the back takes some time to warm up and she gets chilly there when we start the car.

While the reinforced chest piece can handle running through the woods pretty well, the fluffier wool material could get caught on thorns and it also collects dog hair, leaves, etc so it is best used for on-leash adventures. For example, it is great over a harness while doing canicross on a chilly day.

I love how snug it fits around the dog and that the leg loops along with the adjustment point above the tail create a perfect coverage over the hips and leg muscles. The elastic leg loops are pretty wide and are the right length on Zulu to keep the back of the jacket in place without chafing the legs or making her uncomfortable.

Review Summary

The Non-stop Dogwear Wool Jacket is a well-made, smartly designed sweater or baselayer that provides great coverage for large muscle groups without restricting movement, thanks to features like shoulder slits and adjustable straps. While it’s not a thick winter coat, it works perfectly for active dogs or when needing a bit of extra warmth.

For the best fit, I’d recommend sizing down, especially if your dog is between sizes, as the jacket tends to run bigger than Non-stop’s winter coats.
