Non-stop Dogwear is a Norwegian company that has rapidly grown over the past decade, with their products now available globally. While they focus on equipment for skijoring, canicross, and other pulling activities, they also offer a range of other products, including dog jackets, collars, leashes, and human gear. Today we are focusing on their new Dog Rescue Sling that you can use to carry out dogs in emergencies.

About The Non-Stop Dogwear Dog Rescue Sling

The Dog Rescue Sling was created in collaboration with the Norwegian Search and Rescue Dog Association (NRH) to provide a lightweight and reliable option for transporting an injured dog in emergencies. It features four leg openings and a sling design that distributes the dog’s weight evenly and does not have a predetermined front or back, which allows it to be put on quickly without worrying about orientation.

The edges of the sling are finished with soft materials to minimize rubbing and discomfort, and its construction utilizes durable fabrics. The technical details include a 100% polyester outer fabric, polyester webbing, Bluesign-approved Duraflex buckles, and 3M reflective materials. Each sling comes with a mesh storage bag for easy packing.

The product is available in sizes S through XL in a high-visibility orange color. Sizes are based on the dog’s weight and the distance between the dog’s legs. Approximate weight of the slings ranges from 168 g for size S up to 232 g for size XL, making it an ultralight option to carry on trips where dogs may need assistance.

The Non-Stop Dogwear Rescue Sling is straightforward to use: each leg is placed into an opening, and the buckles are secured over the back of the dog to keep the sling in place (it is not bearing weight). The length of the (human) shoulder straps can be adjusted by tying knots on the straps, but there is no slider or other adjustment options to avoid them loosening up or a buckle breaking open while carrying the dog. Because the sling does not have a designated front or back, setup is easy and fast, which is especially important in stressful situations.

The carrying style can be adapted depending on the situation: dogs can be transported in front, on the back, or on the side, but since the straps are not adjustable, it can be a little hard to fine-tune the length. The straps can also be threaded through a backpack’s shoulder straps to make longer carries more comfortable, as the bare straps can cut into the shoulders, especially when carrying a bigger dog. Using it over a thin coat was not an issue with the 30-pound Zulu, but she is on the smaller end of the size range.

One detail worth noting is that the sling has minimal adjustment points around the dog’s body. For some dogs, this could be a limitation if the fit feels loose or too tight in places. However, in testing, it worked well for Zulu, who has a narrow frame and deep chest and can be hard to fit into most gear. The section under her neck did not seem to cut into her neck at all, even with her lower head carry, but it would probably be an issue with an unconscious dog (like in the case of most sling designs).

Based on her weight, she could be either in a small or medium sling, but since she is a proportionally long and narrow dog, I opted for the M, and it provided even support, and Zu felt stable in it while being carried.

Overall, it is an easy-to-use and practical solution for outdoor adventures where unexpected injuries might require carrying the dog back to safety.

How does The Non-Stop Dogwear Dog Rescue Sling compare to the other Dog Rescue Harnesses on the Market?

Compared to other emergency carry systems, the Non-stop Dog Rescue Sling stands out for being one of the lightest and most compact designs available. At 168–232 grams (5.9 oz - 8.2 oz), depending on size, it is easy to pack and barely adds weight to a hiking kit. Its included mesh bag allows it to fit into a backpack or first aid kit without taking up much room.

Unlike more structured rescue harnesses, the sling does not have extensive adjustment points or built-in padding, which makes it less customizable but significantly lighter. Harness-style systems may offer more stability or distribute pressure differently, but they often weigh more and take up more space while also requiring a long adjustment process.

For those prioritizing portability and simplicity, the Dog Rescue Sling is probably among the most practical choices on the market. It provides the essentials: a secure, ergonomic way to carry a dog, while remaining small and light enough to always bring along.
