About the MUi Magnetic Leash

The MUi Magnetic Leash is a sturdy, 6-foot rope leash designed for medium/large dogs. Its unique feature is the patented MUi connection system featuring two pieces:

1️⃣ The magnet-embedded dangle attaches to the collar or harness and stays there even when the leash is not connected. This makes it easy and quick to attach the leash since the magnets snap together when you hover over it with the latch.

2️⃣ The dual-hook latch at the end of the rope is functional with or without the magnet-embedded dangle. If used as a standalone leash, it attaches to the ring on the harness/collar, but it is quicker to attach to the dangle with the help of the magnets.

The carabiner was stress tested at 200 lb, while the dual-hook latch can handle a cyclic load stress test of at least 300 lbs without failure.

The strong magnets on both sides make it very easy to attach the leash without looking for the carabiner, which can be especially helpful on cold days while wearing gloves or for people who have a hard time with fine motor movement. This is also a useful feature if you need to attach the leash with one hand while holding another dog/ kid’s hand/bags etc.

I wish the latch would be just a bit smoother to open, but it is not harder than most traditional carabiners.

We also posted a video on Instagram showing how the attachment works.

As seen in the video linked above, the magnets are fairly strong and snap together strongly. This also means some force is necessary to detach them - especially on lighter dogs who might have a harder time standing their ground while the magnets are pulled apart.

A somewhat weird feature is that the latch has some room for movement when it is attached to the dangle. When the dog suddenly pulls on the leash, the magnets can come apart (while the latch is still firmly holding the dangle), causing this weird feeling of the magnets detaching and then snapping back together.

This is not a functionality issue, just something to get used to. The magnets are there to help with attaching the leash, not for extra security, and they stay in place well unless the dog suddenly pulls.

Review Summary

Testing and reviewing unique products is always a great experience, and I appreciated the innovative approach of this leash attachment. The rope is very thick, feels good quality, and is easy on the hands even when walking bigger dogs who pull. There is very minimal elasticity to the rope, but it is not significant.

While the dual connection does make the leash bulkier, I think it is a great feature that can be helpful in many situations!
