KuoriPomppa vs. SadePomppa

KuoriPomppa was introduced in 2024 as a newer take on their original SadePomppa raincoat line that we have reviewed before.

KuoriPomppa offers advanced features like a 10,000 mm waterproof rating (compared to SadePomppa’s 5,000), adjustable leg straps, a harness opening, and a redesigned collar section with an adjustability option.

SadePomppa is a simpler, durable raincoat with a smooth lining that resists debris and dog hair. Its new color releases include harness openings and leg straps, but these features are not standard across the product line.

Adding extra warmth to any of these coats is always possible by using the JumpaPommpa sweater as a base layer.

The Details of the KuoriPomppa Dog Raincoat

KuoriPomppa is a lightweight and unlined raincoat designed to protect dogs from rain, wind, and mud throughout the year. This versatile shell jacket is the newest addition to Pomppa’s rainwear range and offers a combination of practical features and updates making it even more functional and better fitting on a wide range of dogs.

The KuoriPomppa is made from a waterproof and breathable 3-layer fabric with taped main seams, providing excellent protection against the elements. It features an updated collar and adjustable neckline for improved neck coverage along with a harness and collar openings. The redesigned front piece improves the chest and shoulder coverage using an elastic material to prevent limitations on the legs’ range of motion.

A huge improvement that is unique among dog coats is adjustable leg straps that allow for a secure and customizable fit. You can also detach it if not needed or if you prefer not to use it for an outing to prevent it from getting snagged on the undergrowth.

This coat serves as a lightweight raincoat in warmer weather, but it can also be layered over a base layer, such as the JumpaPommpa for added warmth. The material is 100% recycled polyester with a PFC-free DWR (durable water-repellent) treatment, offering a water column rating of 10,000 mm and breathability of 10,000 g/m²/24h. The KuoriPomppa is designed in Finland and manufactured in China.

The KuoriPomppa is easy to maintain, requiring a gentle machine wash at 30°C. It should not be tumble-dried, and its water-repellency can be reactivated after washing. After several washes, the DWR treatment can be restored using a waterproofing spray.

KuoriPomppa Review

When reviewing the previous Pomppa coats, we kept saying that the quality, large coverage and the colors are amazing, but on narrow, long dogs we kept having issues with the backend rotating to the side. The recent upgrades on this coat tremendously improved all these!

The ability to adjust the leg loop makes it possible to fine-tune the fit and try multiple lengths to see what keeps the coat best in place without any chafing. I also struggled with the fit of the SadePomppa on Zulu because the size she needed due to her deep chest and long back was too loose around her neck and was sliding down on her shoulders. The addition of the elastic adjustment point around the neck helped to bring that neck section higher up and clear the shoulders from the coat’s material.

The only thing to keep in mind with that elastic loop is that you want to tuck in the access material after adjustment if the dog is off leash in a wooded area to prevent the loop from getting snagged.

The KuoriPomppa also has a redesigned front/chest section compared to the SadePomppa.

When seeing the first photos of this new design, many were concerned about shoulder restriction as it covers more of that area than the other coats. It is important to understand that the extra material that Pomppa added there is a thin, elastic piece that easily moves to the side and stretches easily. The KuoriPomppa still has slits in front of the shoulders that allow for free leg movement.

It is important to note that the elastic section is not meant to be waterproof however, it dries very fast and does not soak in too much water.

The outer layer of KuoriPomppa is sturdy and I have no concerns about it being ripped when Zu is running through the woods. When it came out of the package, it was a bit wrinkled, which is visible on some photos but that will go away over time. I expect the material would get wrinkled again if packed away tightly.

The only part of this coat that I have mixed feelings about is the new “collar” neck section. While it provides a larger coverage than previously, it does not have any tightening options so it usually flops around and slides down when Zulu is running around (see the photos) while I feel SadePomppa’s neck section stayed upright a lot more (see that on the photos in that review).

This might be due to the newly added collar opening and the adjustable neck which made that whole area less “rigid” than on the SadePomppa but I feel tightening up the excess material on the collar would provide a better rain protection.

KuoriPomppa Review Summary

The KuoriPomppa has significant improvements over previous Pomppa designs, particularly for narrow, long-bodied dogs like Zulu. Its updated features, such as adjustable leg loops and an elastic neckline, allow for a much more tailored fit, reducing the rotation and sliding issues commonly seen with earlier models like the SadePomppa. The redesigned chest section adds extra coverage without restricting movement, thanks to its elastic, flexible material and shoulder slits.

The outer fabric is durable which is great for active dogs running through tough terrain. The KuoriPomppa is a highly functional, versatile raincoat/ top layer that addresses any fit/functionality concerns that one could have with the previous Pomppa coats.
