About the Hurtta Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO
The Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO features highly adjustable straps, offering approximately 20 percent adjustability via four adjustment points around both the neck and chest, which helps tailor the fit to different body shapes. With this new release, Hurtta has introduced a new size, 55–70 cm, to better accommodate slimmer- or medium-sized dogs. The front padding has been slimmed down to suit narrow-chested breeds, and the back padding has been redesigned to reduce chafing.

The fabric is eco-focused: the weatherproof surface fabric and straps are made from recycled polyester, and the lining is a breathable 3D mesh also crafted from recycled polyester. In terms of materials, the surface fabric is composed of 90% recycled polyester and 10% spandex, with 2 mm of neoprene padding; the lining is 100% recycled PES 3D mesh.

Most hardware is plastic with a metal (stainless steel) leash attachment point. The straps are reinforced and tensile-tested for strength. Reflective safety is enhanced on this version with sewn-in reflective loops and a detachable reflector on the handle, rated to about 400–450 cd/m², increasing visibility in low light.
Care instructions require hand washing only. As for end-of-life considerations, Hurtta encourages reusing the harness (by giving or selling it if it no longer fits), repairing it when possible, and recycling its parts (fabric, metal, plastic, packaging) as part of their eco-conscious efforts.

From a technical standpoint, the harness has been lab-tested: the metal parts passed corrosion resistance testing per EN ISO 9227: 2017, and the tensile strength was tested to meet Hurtta’s strength requirements. According to the company, the harness can withstand at least six times the weight of the recommended dog breed. Hurtta also notes its status as a bluesign® system partner. Finally, Hurtta claims that between 80 and 100 percent of the harness’s materials are recycled, depending on the components.
This harness is available in 5 sizes and six colors. Their website has a very handy tool where you can enter your dog’s measurements, and it recommends the right size to choose, showing the tightness/looseness on a spectrum for the size. Zulu is wearing the size 55-70 (the new size introduced with this release!) in Ruby color.

Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO Review
The Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO represents an evolution of the previous Weekend Warrior model, focusing on sustainability and enhanced usability. Hurtta really listened to all the feedback coming in from the original version and made adjustments to improve all aspects of this harness. The addition of a 55–70 cm size and narrowing the chest plate demonstrates Hurtta’s commitment to creating a safer and more comfortable fit for a wide range of dogs.
In use, the harness is both strong and lightweight. The outer material of the back piece feels well-made and sturdy, and the neoprene padding provides a soft but supportive structure. The back handle provides an easy control/support option on the trails, and the wide range of adjustability allows for a secure fit on most dogs. While the plastic quick-release buckles are not my favorite, they feel sturdy enough to trust them, and Hurtta’s testing efforts help to build this confidence as well. We had no issues with the straps loosening after the initial adjustment, and the harness stayed in place reasonably well due to the padded, still wide, chest plate.
Ecologically, this harness is impressive. By using recycled polyester, Hurtta reduces its environmental footprint. Encouraging owners to repair, reuse, or pass on the harness at the end of its life reflects a genuine sustainability mindset.

The only issue we have been running into is that the chest plate does not have as much structural stability as the back panel - probably to keep it light and minimalistic. While it’s still padded, it tends to stick out and have a gap in the front. This is not uncommon with Y-harnesses, as you will always have excess material there when the dog’s head is down vs up, but this harness had this tendency a bit more than other harnesses - especially if it got wet and its weight pulled it down more.
Depending on fit and sizing, this can be an issue if the dog steps over that gap with one leg when they run or play and gets tangled in it.

While this harness provides a decent armpit clearance (even on the deep-chested Zulu!) - it is not extensive. However, it is important to understand that if Hurtta added a proportionally longer chest piece to push the chest straps farther back, the snagging of this chest piece would be even more prominent. Overall, the harness’s fit (ratios) is probably the ideal middle ground to provide a good armpit clearance on most dogs without too much snagging on the front.
Since the front piece is not following the chest of the dog, this also makes the armpit clearance look less prominent, as it actually is with leash pressure when it is being pulled back in a snugger fitting position.

Functionality Review of the Hurtta Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO
No-pull correction: It does not have a no-pull ring, nor the structural stability to support one (it would rotate too much)
Running/Biking: It is not designed to be a pulling harness but is padded enough to use for light pullers or can be a good option if your dog runs next to you, as long as it fits your dog well and the armpit clearance is enough not to chafe.
Hiking: Great option for hikes: It is light, visible, and has a handle. However, while the outer material is weather-resistant, the mesh padding will collect mud and water in wet conditions.
City walks: It is a good and functional harness for daily urban walks.
Easy to put on/adjust: It needs to go over the head. The chest straps offer plenty of adjustment options, and we have not had any issues with these straps loosening up over time.
Visibility: While the harness does not come in traditionally high-visibility colors, it has reflective features all around.

Hurtta Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO Review Summary
In summary, the Weekend Warrior Harness II ECO is a very compelling option for those who want a durable, well-fitting harness that’s also mindful of sustainability. Hurtta’s updates, like the eco-material construction, additional sizing, and refined sizing, are all steps in the right direction and show that they are listening to customer feedback.
Overall, this is a lightweight, low-profile harness that still shows that a lot of thought went into creating an updated, highly functional everyday harness.
