About the Hurtta Monsoon Raincoat II ECO
The Hurtta Monsoon Coat II ECO is a waterproof dog coat designed for everyday use in wet, windy, and muddy conditions. It’s made entirely from 100% recycled materials, including the bluesign® approved 150D polyester shell and a soft, woven lining. The outer fabric is coated with a fluorocarbon-free Bionic-Finish ECO treatment and has a water column rating of over 10,000 mm. It can also be layered over a base layer for added warmth in colder weather.
To improve protection in bad weather, the coat features a high RainStopper collar made from waterproof tricot. It helps keep water from running down the dog’s neck. A wide belly flap covers the chest and underside to keep dirt and splashes off, and also helps hold the coat in place while the dog is moving. Back leg loops keep the hem from blowing up in the wind, and all seams are fully taped for added waterproofing.
The coat has four adjustment points: the neckline, collar, belt, and back length. These help create a better fit for different body types. There are also XS sizes designed specifically for short-legged breeds like dachshunds. The quick-snap belt makes it easy to put on, and the coat can be worn over a harness. It includes an opening for harness access on sizes 28–80 and a leash hole for sizes 23–25.
For visibility, the coat has reflective prints on the rear hem and a reflective chest stripe with a brightness of 400–450 cd/m². The outer fabric has a tearing strength of at least 15 N, so it can handle dogs that are rough on their coats.
The coat is machine washable at 40ºC without fabric softener. Hurtta encourages users to repair or reuse the product when possible and recycle parts.

After using the Hurtta Monsoon Coat II ECO for several months, I’ve found it to be a well-designed, durable raincoat. Despite being lightweight, it feels sturdy but thin enough to use on warmer days. The coat offers excellent coverage, especially over the hips and across the front, keeping the hips and shoulders dry and warm. The oversized front flap is smartly designed to allow for free shoulder movement on most dogs.
The material quality is impressive as with all Hurtta coats, and the color options are beautiful in person and this pink is also pretty visible. Zulu wears size 45 (EU) / 18 (US), which matches the sizing she uses in all her other Hurtta gear.
This raincoat is very quick to dry and I just rinsed it clean after adventures / shook off the mud and dirt once it dried and it looked new after most adventures. It is a low-maintenance option that packs small making it an easy choice to bring along for long hikes or roadtrips where the weather might turn.
One small issue we encountered is that the back leg loops are a bit too loose on Zulu. They don’t hold the back of the coat in place when she is running around off leash, which can cause the material to shift to the side. This can be solved by tying a simple knot in the elastic straps to create a snugger fit or shorten it with another DIY solution.
