The Trailblazer mat is built to withstand digging, scratching, and heavy use by using superior tear and abrasion-resistant materials and bartack-reinforced construction for added strength. Do you want your dog to be comfy while being on an adventure but you also need something low-maintenance and super sturdy? This was exactly the use case behind creating the Trailblazer bed!
We have been using it over the summer for camping trips, and it has been Zulu’s crate mat since we received it. The material is so sturdy and easy to clean that I didn’t need to worry about putting it on the ground or drying it when Zu jumps in the crate while wet and muddy. Still, it is padded enough to keep her comfortable.
I wasn’t sure if it would fit Zulu’s crates as she needs significantly smaller sizes than the 42" crates mentioned on the website but it proved to be easy to fold into different crates. The bigger base area even allowed me to create “pillows” on the sides that she loves for curling up when it gets colder.
The non-skid bottom keeps it in place very well on a hardwood floor and in car crates as well!
The mat can be machine washed but so far I just hosed it off with some gentle scrubbing and it looked brand new after drying. The combination of the super tough top material and the waterproof treatments make it very easy just to brush off the dog hair and spot-clean it as needed.
The only small issue I have run into while using this bed is that the Fidlock buckles were not as easy to use in this scenario as I expected. I am a big fan of Fidlock hardware but on this mat, it can be a bit hard to snap it in place and confirm I got it right without seeing its back so it opened on me a few times because I didn’t attach it correctly without noticing. The choice of Fidlock matches the high-end product’s features, I feel that a strong plastic buckle could have also done this job while providing a simpler user experience.
