About the Blackk Wolf Hexa Harness

The Blackk Wolf HEXA harness is well-made and super low-maintenance! It’s waterproof and can just be rinsed/wiped and it looks new again even after the muddiest walks. It is not Biothane but the Hexa-coated webbing has similar features while being a bit more “grippy”.

The Hexa harness is fully custom-made based on the measurements you send in to ensure a perfect fit. Additionally, it features five adjustment points to fine-tune every aspect of the harness - or to adjust for a still-growing dog.

Its other cool feature is the FIDLOCK Magnetic buckles on the chest straps! They lock in place with the help of strong magnets but are held in place by strong locks after that (not by magnetic force). This makes putting it on very satisfying and easy while you can quickly open them by pulling on the little tab on them.

The harness currently comes in 12 color options with two Hexa widths: 20 and 25 mm.

Super Grip Leash & Printed Biothane collar

We have also received a Super Grip Leash and a Printed Biothane collar to make our set complete.

The Super Grip leash is made of 20mm Grip BioThane with a Silver Aluminium Carabiner. While Biothane can be somewhat slippery when wet, this leash remains super grippy in every condition. The breaking strength of the BioThane Grip is 340kg so it makes it easy to hold onto bigger dogs.

It comes in one color and 4 lengths from 1 to 5 meters.

The Printed collars come in two sizes: The 25mm Biothane base has a 19 mm printed BioThane add-on, while the 38mm collars have a 25 mm top layer. You can pick between solid brass and stainless steel hardware options, three printed designs, and 27 base Biothane colors.

Our collar is 20 mm wide, a forest design on a pastel blue Biothane.

Since Zulu is a hard-to-fit dog, I really appreciate custom-made, fully adjustable harnesses. The Hexa harness has a huge adjustment range on every strap besides the top section so even if you don’t measure accurately, you can fine-tune it on the dog.

The Hexa material is more grippy and a bit less rigid than Biothane. The initial adjustment took a while because moving the sliders and adjusting the grippy straps is not easy even when the harness is off the dog but once you set the right lengths for all, there is no way they will loosen.

While this is not a rigid harness, it stayed in place reasonably well on Zulu. If there is leash pressure, it can rotate to the side as all strap harnesses but the grippier material and the symmetrical design help to keep it in place when the dog is off-leash.

While using this harness we received many questions on the magnetic Fidlock buckle.

Firstly, I want to clarify that the buckle is not held together by the magnet, it merely aligns the two sides, which then snap securely into place.

Although it is highly secure and unlikely to open due to tension on the harness, it is not impossible, especially for larger dogs. However, we need to note that traditional plastic buckles can also break, so if you have a large dog who lunges/pulls, it is recommended to only use a metal buckle that fastens like a traditional belt.

Another way the magnetic Fidlock buckle can open is if a dog rolls on the ground or rubs against furniture at just the right angle. If this is a big concern, you can remove the pull tab, making it significantly harder to apply the necessary pressure to open it accidentally. Even without the pull tab, you will be able to open the buckle, but it is less comfortable. Removing the pull tab also prevents other dogs from grabbing it during play and accidentally opening the buckle.

We have been using this harness for months and have used other products with FodLock buckles in the past and never experienced them opening on Zulu. The magnetic feature is very satisfying and makes putting the harness on and removing it very quick and comfortable - especially during the winter while wearing gloves.

The only small issue I had with this harness is that the slider on the strap between the front legs prevents the material from laying completely flat and it tends to stick out on Zulu’s chest. This is most visible when she is sniffing off-leash as it brings the chest straps forward and hangs low. The hanging chest section is a normal occurrence with all harnesses as that section needs to be longer when the dog is standing vs. when their head is low.

However, on the Hexa harness, the excess material and the slider in the middle make the section a bit heavier which makes this more visible. This doesn’t affect any of the functionality, purely being an aesthetical point and also a side note on why the harness seems to sit closer to Zulu’s armpits than in other photos.

All these materials are easy to clean, waterproof, and low maintenance and they can handle all adventures for many years.
