Since Non-Stop Dogwear launched the new Rush harness, we’ve received a lot of questions about how it compares to their other popular harnesses—the Line and Freemotion. Each harness is unique, with different designs, features, and uses in mind.

This article breaks down the differences between the Rush Harness, Freemotion Harness 5.0, and Line Harness 5.0 to help you decide which best suits your and your dog’s activities and needs.

Non-stop Dogwear Rush Harness – Lightweight, breathable everyday harness that can also handle pulling

The Rush Harness is designed for active everyday use and is a great choice for dogs that lean into their harness or pull during walks and activities.

Main features:

  • Lightweight and Easy to Put On: With its ultralight design and two buckles, the Rush harness is ideal for gear-shy dogs. Simply slip it over your dog’s head and secure the side buckles.

  • Breathability and Comfort: Using Freemotion technology, it’s designed to allow full freedom of movement and unrestricted breathing, making it perfect for dogs with moderate pulling style. Its light materials make it slightly less padded than the Line or Freemotion, so you may notice it shifts a little more to the side or bunches up slightly when your dog pulls forward. However, the angled chest strap provides better armpit clearance on most dogs, giving it an edge over the Line harness in that aspect.

  • Compromise: This harness is designed to fit the gap between the Line and Freemotion harness for those whose dogs pull somewhat but not enough to need a Freemotion. The length and armpit clearance is between these two. If you are wondering about the pros and cons of shorter or full-length pulling harnesses - check out our article on different pulling harness styles and their pros and cons.

It’s available in two colors: black/orange and teal and comes in 8 sizes.

Non-stop Dogwear Freemotion Harness 5.0 – For Pulling Sports

The Freemotion Harness 5.0 is Non-stop Dogwear’s original high-performance harness, used by athletes and designed for dogs who perform intense pulling.

Main features:

  • Long Design: This harness is built specifically for pulling sports such as canicross, bikejoring, and skijoring. Its long design and heavily padded neck area distribute the pulling force evenly across the dog’s body, avoiding pressure on the neck. However, having the leash attachment point at the base of the tail allows for a lot less “steering power” to control the dog if needed.

  • Comfort and Stability: This harness has thick padding and an ergonomic shape that keeps it securely in place and prevents rotation to the sides. While it’s great for confident dogs, it might feel uncomfortable for gear-shy dogs due to the snug fit and the fact that it slips over the head snugly then the front legs need to be pulled through it since it doesn’t have side buckles.

The Freemotion harness is available in a variety of colors (orange/black, blue/gray, and pink/gray), with sizes 3-9.

Non-stop Dogwear Line Harness 5.0 – A Versatile, Padded, Everyday Harness

The Line Harness 5.0 is ideal for everyday activities like hiking and loose-leash walking and many are using it for trekking or scent work. It’s a great choice for dogs that aren’t dedicated pullers but need a comfortable, all-purpose harness.

Non-Stop Dogwear Rush, Line, and Freemotion Harnesses Comparison | Dog Gear Review

Main features:

  • Versatile: With attachment points on the back, under the chest (for tracking lines), and even on the front for anti-pull control, this harness can be used for different activities. Its shorter, more compact design makes it perfect for dogs that walk or run with minimal pulling as this harness will not distribute the pressure as effectively on the chest and can put pressure on the lower neck.

  • Thick Padding & Stability: The padding in the Line harness provides a lot more structure and stability than the Rush harness. It does a good job staying in place even if there’s some side pull from the leash.

  • Practical: The chest strap buckles make it easy to put the harness on the dog, and 3M™ reflective details keep your dog visible in low light. This harness has less armpit clearance than the other two, which might not be enough for dogs with deep chests or dogs with a long body. However, the Line harness will stay in place well and will not bunch up even when pulled forward.

The Line harness is available in various colors like black, orange, blue, green, teal, and purple, and comes in sizes 1-8 to suit most dogs.
